What is a stethoscope?
A stethoscope is one of the most important tools of a doctor. It is mainly used for listening to the heart and lungs. By transmitting the sound from the diaphragm or bell to the ears, the doctor recognizes whether it is a normal sound or a pathological finding. A stethoscope ('phonendoscope') consists of a diaphragm and a bell used to auscultate deeper tones, a hose that conducts the sound and earphones ending in soft olives.
